AWFUL TREE POEM

I think that you shall never see
me write a poem about a tree
as long ago in grade school class
I needed to read a poem aloud to pass
when I took that famous Kilmer poem
and memorized the thing like my own
it came down to the day I read it aloud
the clamoring students gathered as a crowd
and I stumbled through mixing up the best
and they laughed me humbly back to my desk
scurrying angrily I grumbled back to my place
this poetry stuff is for the birds off in space

I'm sure your poem could be interpreted many ways.Perhaps it triggered a fear of public speaking that has plagued you and made you realize that you should start out writing books. Then again, maybe you were just expressing your childhood affinity for birds. On the other hand, the reaction may have caused you to be rebellious, take on an "I'll show you" attitude and master the art of poetry as you grew up.

Then again, maybe it was just a crappy poem telling the reader about a crappy experience you had at school. OK. I commented.
